According to a report from Realtor.com, the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan statistical area was the second best in the nation for first-time homebuyers in 2013.
The Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater MSA had a median home listing price of $169,900, 13.34 percent higher than in 2012, according to a statement. There was a total of 21,062 home listings in the area in 2013, 34 percent more than in 2012.
“First-time buyers have a widespread impact on the local housing markets,” said Steve Berkowitz, CEO of Move Inc., operator of Realtor.com, in the statement. “In transitioning from renters to owners, new buyers pay property taxes and other fees and taxes associated with homeownership that benefits local schools and services.”
Residential real estate in Tampa Bay overall seems to be steadily increasing in value.
Median sales prices for single-family homes sales were up in February, compared to the same months in 2013, ranging from an increase in Hillsborough of 2 percent to up 15 percent in Manatee.
Nationally, January’s single-family home sales were well above expectations and almost 10 percent more than December’s rate, according to the Washington Bureau of the Business Journals.
Realtor.com examined five factors in 146 markets to determine the list, including market popularity, home prices, home inventory, time on the market and employment levels, comparing them to the needs of typical first-time homebuyers.
Pittsburgh, Pa. was ranked No. 1 for first-time homebuyers on the list.
